Grief arrives one morning,

Quietly sitting outside

as you draw the curtains,

hunched over in the rain.

She walked around all week,

Unnoticed, eyes to the stony ground,

The letter in her pocket will turn

the corners of your mouth down.

Bring her in, she's trembling to her core.

Yes

Say Yes !

when they ask if you want more,

Yes !

It may please or annoy,

So,

Keep in mind your tastes,

the tastes that gave you hope

and sustained you through

all manner of circumstance,

but still, say yes.

If you have the nerve for it.

I've said yes to some things,

Mostly no to most.

My stance is stubborn,

I'm abstinent,

Though not to alcohol.

No, not to alcohol.

Felled

Once, long ago,

I fell with my baby in my arms,

Bump,

Bump,

Bump,

Bumpety

Bumpbumpbump,

All the way

D

the steep stairs.

I held him tight,

Every single stair

bouncing my heart

like a beach ball.

There,

Sitting, clinging to each other

at the foot,

He laughing - gen ! gen !

Throwing his head back

in some sort of ecstatic longing,

But me,

So full of fright,

Hugging him far too tight,

Burying my head in his lovely hair

And sobbing so loud,

He begins to wail,

What a pair,

Clinging and crying,

Sobbing and wailing,

Until the cat came,

And led him away.

Ocean

Setting sail upon a serene ocean I

Look confidently to the horizon.

Where am I going ?

It's a vague and lovely notion.

I paddle my little oracle for a while,

Then sit and contemplate the sky,

The weather is calm today.

How can it ever be

otherwise.

Love

You glance at me with that look,

I know it so well.

It comes from me partly,

Touches my heart but my heart is tough.

I wonder if yours is yet.

No, I remember the chinks

through which

those few bitter tears,

held back so long,

They'd almost dried

before they dropped,

Fell,

Like a sharp acid rain.

My mother used to say;

I love you more than life itself !

Perhaps you'll understand one day,

I'd roll my eyes ( inwardly of course )

But now I do.

There are so many things in life to love,

But so few of them worth loving without you,

I hope you know it one day too.

I see the heavy storms ahead and hope

I can be there to guide you through.
